Brush Care
Brushes should be checked regularly for split bristles as these can damage the hair. Invest in a new brush when bristles show signs of wear and tear.
Brushes must be clean regularly to maintain healthy, clean hair. For oily hair wash brushes each time the hair is washed, for dry/normal hair wash brushes on a weekly basis.
Remove loose strands of hair prior to washing by sliding a Lady Jayne wide toothed comb or brush through the bristles. For ball-tipped brushes use the tail of a tail comb to lift the loose hair from the brush.
Immerse bristles in a lukewarm solution of water and shampoo then swirl the brush around until the bristles are clean. Rinse thoroughly in clean water. Shake excess water and towel dry the handle and back of the brush and allow brush to dry in room temperature.
Cushion Brushes require special care when washing. Grease can cause deterioration of the rubber pad therefore more frequent washing is recommended.
Firstly remove loose strands of hair from the brush using a wide-tooth or tail comb. Secondly, prepare lukewarm soapy water, free of detergent and ammonia products, in a shallow tray or bathroom sink. Swirl brush around in the solution then rinse in clean water. Allow brush to air-dry with bristles facing down on a clean, dry towel to allow the water to drain. The ‘hole’ in a cushion brush must never be clogged or covered, as this destroys the brush’s ability to ‘breathe’ and adapt to the contours of the head.
Helpful Hint:
Immersing the cushion in the soapy solution will not ruin the brush, however, it is important not to soak the brush for an extended period of time as the excess water in the cushion may prove difficult to dry.
