Evolution of Combs

Primitive combs were made from a variety of natural products such as animal teeth, bone and wood and were the first implement invented to groom the hair.

Throughout the ages, combs have played an important role in both grooming and decorating the hair.  Tortoise-shell, Mother-of-Pearl and Ivory have been worked into exquisite items for the hair and dressing table.

Today, a wide variety of combs are available to perform a number of functions.  Combs have teeth rather than bristles for finer styling, permed or wet hair.

They are convenient, lightweight combs that are easily portable and favoured by men.

Wide-toothed ‘afro’ combs separate and add volume to curls.  They are also excellent for permed hair.

Many combs have a combination of wide and regular spaced teeth to provide a quick and easy lift for modern hairstyles. Other combs have been specifically designed to distribute conditioner evenly and to detangle wet and long hair.

The comb remains the most basic grooming tool on the market and is generally taken for granted by most consumers.
